Wagons West 

The sign commemorating this notable trail is located 2.5 miles east of Checkerboard, Montana on Highway 12 in the Little Belt Mountains. In approximately 1870 this wagon trail was used for miltary and business operations from the Missouri located near the James Kipp Recreational Area on Highway 191 to Helena, Montana. This trail was only used until the year 1883, when the Northern Pacific Railroad caused the route to be unessesary.
