5.8 Earthquake near Lincoln, Montana 

At approximately 12:30 AM on July 6, 2017 there was a 5.8 earthquake located 5.5 miles from Lincoln, Montana. So far we have heard of people feeling it as far as Spokane WA, Billings, Missoula, Belgrade, Great Falls, Havre and Neihart, Montana. We have not heard of any damage or injuries, other than the power is out. Large earthquakes are not common occurrences in this part of Montana, so it is easy to make bad decisions in such an emergency. Please stay safe, and call 911 is there is a emergency. 

The largest quake recorded in Montana history was 58 years ago in Yellowstone National Park with a 7.2. However, Yellowstone has recorded an inordinate amount of earthquakes this last year. 

There have been several quakes in close proximity to one another.

In Neihart, Montana

12:30 AM - Initial shake was rather large lasting approximately 15-20 seconds. It receded, but kept shaking for about 1-2 minutes lightly.

12:35 AM About 5 minutes later a second one came but was not as powerful.

2:00 AM -  Tremors and smaller quakes have been felt since then, nothing as big as the initial quake.
